So Why Palmistry?
There’s astrology, tarot or cartomancy, tea leaf reading or tasseomancy, scrying, rune casting, so of all the -mancies and divinatory practices, why palmistry?
From a young age, the art of palmistry found its way into my heart. As a kinesthetic learner, I’ve always sought to understand the world through touch and direct experience. But what truly captivated me was the ability to see someone’s life story unfold in the lines of their hands.
Palmistry, also known as chiromancy or palm reading, is a divinatory practice that examines the shapes, lines, and details of the hands to reveal insights into a person’s personality and fate. Rooted in centuries of mysticism and cultural beliefs, palmistry has evolved from a revered spiritual art to a widely recognized practice in both Eastern and Western traditions.
There are so many reasons to dive into palmistry, but here are a few of the things I love most about this lifelong practice.
GROUNDED IN YOUR BODY Unlike other practices that rely on external tools, palmistry uses the body as the medium. As someone who is a kinesthetic learner, I took to palmistry naturally because I could touch and feel to learn with my hands. Skin thickness and quality, firmness, and temperature are all important parts of a reading just like the signs, mounts and lines.
SEEN AND UNSEEN Palmistry blends observational analysis with intuitive interpretation. The lines you see in front of you are just as important as any clair’s that you are sensing during a reading.
HOLISTIC VIEW Palmistry looks at all aspects of someone’s life and how one part of their life may cross into another. For example, sometimes changing your career can impact finding love or your family life.
CONNECTION Palmistry is an amazing way to connect with people. It’s been a really effective tool for starting conversations in my personal life and a creative way to meet new people.
UNIQUENESS Every person’s hands are different, making each palm reading an exciting surprise. And even though everyone’s hands are so different, it’s so beautiful to see similarities between friends, family and strangers.
POTENTIAL + EMPOWERMENT Palmistry reminds us of our potential and shows us what we can try if we’ve never considered it before. My favorite few finds that come up again and again in readings are writing and healing! Sometimes it’s a “oh yeah I forgot” for someone and other times a person may not even know they had the ability to write or heal in them. Similar to the potential, empowering someone with a validating point or confirmation might be all they need to continue on their journey.
UNIVERSAL Palmistry is its own language that has been seen throughout history in different cultures. It’s been used for medicinal diagnosis, political strategy, career assessment, you name it. Just like mathematics can bridge between cultures, palmistry is one way to connect with people regardless of what language they speak.
The first thing in learning palmistry is to simply notice your hands. Spend a week appreciating what they touch, how firm or gentle you type on a keyboard, the scars and scratches on their surface. Take a look at your fingerprints, the lines of your hand, do you have any birthmarks or moles? With this simple practice, you’ve already begun.
